Postdoctoral position, hydrodynamical simulations of the Galactic centre, INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova

INAF-Astronomical Observatory of Padova (INAF-OAPD) invites applications for a post-doctoral research position, to study the evolution of molecular clouds and protoplanetary discs in the Galactic centre, by means of hydrodynamical simulations. This position is in the framework of a project funded by the MERAC Foundation.

Additional information and enquiries about the scientific project can be addressed to Michela Mapelli: michela.mapelli[at]oapd.inaf.it

More details about the research group can be found at http://web.pd.astro.it/mapelli/group.html.

Candidates with experience in adaptive mesh refinement simulations and/or smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are encouraged to apply. Previous experience in simulations of molecular clouds and/or protoplanetary discs will be an advantage.

The earliest possible starting date is March 2016, but later dates are also possible (up to the end of 2016). Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, or equivalent degree, or are expected to obtain their Ph.D. by the time of the appointment.

The appointment is for two years, with a possible extension depending on funding availability and performance. The minimum net salary is 25000 EUR, more than adequate for local costs of living. Travel funds will be available.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, statement of research interests (maximum 3 pages), list of publications, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Michela Mapelli, michela.mapelli[at]oapd.inaf.it. Applications sent by December 15 2015 will receive full consideration. Applications after this date are still welcome until the position is filled.

INAF-OAPD is a leading institute in the field of theoretical and observational astrophysics, with several research groups working on many topics (including extrasolar planets, star clusters, galaxies and clusters of galaxies, AGNs, supernovae, stellar evolution; more details can be found at http://www.pd.astro.it/index.php/en/astrophysics.html).

Women, Minorities, and Disabled Persons are encouraged to apply.
